Ukraine's state nuclear power company Energoatom said on Saturday that Russian forces had repeatedly shelled the premises of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant that is under Russian control in southeastern Ukraine. The company said, "As a result of periodic shelling, the infrastructure of the power plant has been damaged, there are risks of hydrogen leakage and sputtering of radioactive substances, and the fire hazard is high." It said the damage is currently being investigated. Meanwhile, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson, Igor Konashenkov, blamed Ukraine for the attack. He says Ukrainian forces had launched 17 artillery shells within a 24-hour period, with four of them hitting the roof of a nuclear fuel storage facility. He said that radiation levels around the site have not changed.
