Japan&#039;s main ruling party is to urge the government to step up decontamination work in areas designated as &quot;difficult-to-return zones&quot; after the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident.
                
Lawmakers with the Liberal Democratic Party have compiled proposals for rebuilding the areas affected by the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters.
                
They say the government should effectively proceed with decontamination work in the &quot;difficult-to-return zones,&quot; where evacuation orders are still in effect.
                
Some parts of the no-entry zone have already been cleaned to enable former residents to return.
                
But the LDP lawmakers say officials should start the cleaning work in other areas after hearing from former residents and deciding on areas that need to be decontaminated.
                
They are particularly urging the government to start the work in the next fiscal year starting in April in parts of the towns of Okuma and Futaba, which host the Fukushima Daiichi plant.
                
The LDP lawmakers also demand that the government provide enough information on the planned release of treated water from the plant to prevent reputational damage. They also call for financial support for the local fishing industry and compensation from the operator of the plant.
                
The LDP plans to submit the proposals to Prime Minister Kishida Fumio as early as September, after consulting with its junior coalition partner, Komeito.
