Tokyo governor to attend conference of world cities on climate change NHK

Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko left for Indonesia on Monday to attend an international conference where heads of cities from around the world will discuss climate change and other issues.

The conference, in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, will focus on measures against climate change, ways to realize an inclusive society, and other matters.

The participants plan to submit an outcome document to the Indonesian government.

Later, Koike will fly to Malaysia to meet with the mayor and other officials of its capital, Kuala Lumpur.

They plan to sign an agreement to share technologies and knowledge for infrastructure development and to strengthen cooperation.

Ahead of her departure, Koike told reporters at Narita Airport, near the capital, that Tokyo is dealing with coronavirus infections and increasingly severe natural disasters. She also said she wants to exchange views on how cities should adapt to current conditions.
