Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has instructed the education minister to compile another plan that will help the government surpass its goal of attracting 300,000 students annually from overseas. Kishida held talks with education minister Nagaoka Keiko online on Monday, during which they exchanged views on new themes to discuss at the Council for the Creation of Future Education. Kishida asked Nagaoka to revamp the current Plan for 300,000 Exchange Students, which aims to boost the number of foreign students studying in Japan. He called for the formation of a more ambitious plan that will attract a larger number international students. He also called on the ministry to create an environment in which students -- both foreign ones who studied in Japan and Japanese ones who studied at universities overseas -- can easily find work in Japan. He also asked the ministry to consider ways to promote the internationalization of Japanese education. Following the talks, Nagaoka told reporters that discussions will start next month with the aim of compiling the plans by the spring, ahead of the Group of Seven summit.
