Unstable atmospheric conditions continue in various areas, mainly in western and eastern Japan, with heavy rain clouds developing as Typhoon Hinnamnor heads north. Japan's Meteorological Agency says warm damp air surrounding the typhoon, and the Pacific high pressure system is flowing towards the Sea of Japan to the Tohoku region in the northeast. The agency say people need to stay alert for torrential rain with thunder and lightning, even in the areas away from the typhoon, because the weather may suddenly change. Officials are warning of landslides, flooding, swollen rivers, lightning strikes and gusty winds, including tornadoes. In the 24 hours through Monday morning, up to 200 millimeters of rain is expected in southern Kyushu, 150 millimeters in Shikoku and the Amami region, 120 millimeters in northern Kyushu and 100 millimeters in the Tokai region. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue until Wednesday morning in those areas. The typhoon is expected to come close to Kyushu and other parts of western Japan as it moves north, possibly bringing more rain.
