Large and very strong Typhoon Hinnamnor is expected to bring fierce winds and rough seas mainly to the north of the Kyushu region in western Japan.
                
The Meteorological Agency says that as of 6 a.m. on Monday, Hinnamnor was traveling northward over the East China Sea at about 20 kilometers per hour, after passing through Okinawa Prefecture Sunday night.
                
The typhoon has a maximum wind velocity of 162 kilometers per hour around its center, with gusts of up to 216 kilometers per hour.
                
Winds of 90 kilometers per hour or more are blowing within a radius of 280 kilometers of its core on the eastern side and 165 kilometers on the western side.
                
Hinnamnor is expected to move northeast over the East China Sea and approach northern Kyushu from Monday evening through Tuesday morning.
                
Moist air from the typhoon and a rain front are likely to keep atmospheric conditions unstable in Kyushu and other regions away from the typhoon. Weather officials are forecasting localized downpours.
                
Rainfall in the 24-hour period through Tuesday morning could reach 300 millimeters in southern Kyushu. Northern Kyushu and the Shikoku region may receive up to 250 millimeters. The Amami, Kinki, and Tokai regions may have as much as 120 millimeters.
                
Strong winds are forecast mainly in Kyushu through Tuesday. Northern Kyushu in particular may have violent winds, with maximum winds of 126 kilometers per hour and gusts of 180 kilometers per hour expected.
                
Southern Kyushu and Shikoku may be hit with maximum winds of 90 kilometers per hour and gusts of 126 kilometers per hour through Tuesday.
                
Maximum winds of 83 kilometers per hour are possible in Shikoku, the Hokuriku region along the Sea of Japan, and Hokkaido in the country&#039;s north.
                
Seas will also be very rough around Kyushu, with waves measuring 12 meters high forecast in northern Kyushu and 10 meters high in southern Kyushu. Okinawa, Amami, and the Chugoku region may see waves of 8 meters.
                
Weather officials are urging caution against gusts of wind and high waves, as well as landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and swollen rivers.
