UK: Russian forces in Ukraine suffering from declining morale NHK

Ukrainian forces are stepping up their offensive in the country's south to retake territory captured by Russia. Russian troops, meanwhile, are reportedly experiencing declining morale and discipline as the conflict drags on.

Ukraine began its latest military campaign in the Kherson region and other areas in August. Local media reported on Sunday that Ukrainian forces attacked a Russian ammunition depot and recaptured some settlements.

The Russian military reportedly intensified its rocket attacks in the neighboring Mykolaiv region. Ukrainian local media reports said houses and other structures sustained damage, and people were injured in building collapses.

An analysis by Britain's Defence Ministry states Russian forces in Ukraine appear to be suffering declines in morale and discipline.

In its Sunday intelligence update, the Defence Ministry said Russian troops have not been provided with sufficient weapons and food due to supply delays.

The ministry also reported Russian troops are likely experiencing "significant problems with sizable combat bonuses not being paid."

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday is scheduled to inspect a multinational military exercise, codenamed Vostok 2022, that Russia is hosting in its Far East region. The large-scale drills are viewed by some as an attempt to demonstrate Russia has still sufficient military power.
