Japan's government has extended the period of its financial aid program for Ukrainian evacuees. The move comes amid the prolonged invasion of Ukraine by Russia. In March, the government began providing Ukrainians aged 12 or older who have no relatives or acquaintances in Japan with 2,400 yen, or about 17 dollars, a day as living expenses. Initially, the support was to end after about six months. Officials have now extended the period of support by six months to one year, saying the situation surrounding Ukraine remains unclear. The Immigration Services Agency says 224 of the 1,878 Ukrainian evacuees in Japan currently receive financial support.
