Yu Darvish threw eight dominant innings to pick up his 14th win as the San Diego Padres beat the Seattle Mariners 2-0 on Tuesday.

Darvish (14-7) won his fourth consecutive start after limiting the Mariners to a pair of singles with no walks while striking out seven in a 94-pitch gem at Seattle's T-Mobile Park.

After two outs to open the first inning, Darvish allowed a single before ending the inning with his first strikeout.

"It all started when I was able to get through a scoreless first. From there I concentrated on each inning and each batter in turn," said Darvish, who has now gone six-plus innings in 20 consecutive starts going back to May 19.

"From the box score it might look like I was working comfortably, but it didn't feel that way."

The Mariners did not get a runner to second base against Darvish. In the seventh, he allowed a leadoff single to Ty France but struck out Eugenio Suarez, and Carlos Santana grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Wil Myers doubled in the first run of the game in the fourth inning off Logan Gilbert (12-6). The Padres added a much-needed insurance run in the ninth, when Austin Nola singled and scored on a groundout.

Josh Hader worked the ninth for his 32nd save, striking out three of the four batters he faced.

In other action, Shohei Ohtani went hitless in three at-bats with a walk in the Los Angeles Angels' 3-1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. Mike Trout missed his chance of tying the major league record of homering in eight straight games.

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki struck out three times against New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom and finished 1-for-4 in the team's 4-1 win.

In Boston, Aaron Judge, who is vying with Ohtani as a leading contender for the American League MVP Award, homered twice in the New York Yankees' 7-6, 10-inning victory over the Red Sox, extending his major league-leading home run total to 57.
