A powerful typhoon approaching southwestern Japan is disrupting transportation services across wide areas of the country.
                
As of 11 a.m. Sunday, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways had canceled more than 500 flights for the day.
                
Japan Airlines plans to cancel 376 flights scheduled for Monday and All Nippon Airways will cut 19.
                
Other airlines are also canceling services through Monday, mainly on routes serving airports in the Kyushu and Shikoku regions.
                
Bullet train services are also being affected.
                
As of 1:30 p.m., the operator of the Kyushu Shinkansen has suspended all services for Sunday and Monday.
                
The operator of the Sanyo Shinkansen said it will also suspend all services between Hakata and Hiroshima on Monday. It plans to reduce services between Hiroshima and Shin-Osaka starting Monday morning and suspend services from around 2 p.m.
                
Bullet trains connecting Shin-Osaka and Nagoya will be suspended starting Monday afternoon. Other Tokaido Shinkansen services will also be affected, with trains between Nagoya and Tokyo significantly reduced.
