Chinese media: COVID quarantine bus passengers suffer deadly crash in Guizhou NHK

A bus reportedly transporting people to a coronavirus quarantine facility crashed in China's inland province of Guizhou, killing 27 people and injuring 20.

The state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that a bus carrying 47 people overturned on an expressway at about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday. The bus left the provincial capital of Guiyang for a town about 200 kilometers away.

Local media reports say the passengers were in a health vehicle being transferred for COVID-related reasons.

China has maintained a strict zero-COVID policy, even forcing people who test negative to isolate if they live in the same building with people who test positive.

The fatal accident sparked an outpouring of criticism against strict COVID policies on Chinese social media.

One person wrote that the cause of the accident should be investigated and authorities held accountable.
