Former Administrative Reform Minister Murakami Seiichiro of Japan's main ruling Liberal Democratic Party says he will not attend the state funeral for former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo.

Murakami is the first lawmaker belonging to the LDP who expressed his intention of skipping the funeral. It will be held in Tokyo on Tuesday next week.

He also said state funerals were not held for former Prime Minister Nakasone Yasuhiro and others.

An NHK opinion poll conducted in September showed that 32 percent approve the state funeral, while 57 percent disapprove.
