Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says any attempts to get in the way of China's determination to reunify with Taiwan "would be crushed by the wheels of history." Wang spoke before the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Saturday. Regarding Taiwan, Wang said that his government is firmly determined to crush any secessionist attempts, and would "take the most forceful steps to oppose external interference." At a meeting with Wang on Friday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed Washington's opposition to what it saw as China's unilateral attempts to change the status quo across the Taiwan Strait. With this in mind, Wang noted that the people of China will unanimously oppose any foreign attempts to interfere in the country's internal affairs. Regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which has entered its seventh month, Wang paid attention to both sides. He stressed the need to set up an effective, well-balanced and sustainable framework to find a fundamental resolution of the crisis by considering reasonable security concerns of both sides. As for North Korea, with its ongoing nuclear and missile development, Wang cited the need to take drastic steps to resolve the nuclear issue in the Korean Peninsula. He noted that parties concerned should resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiations, while jointly protecting the peace and stability of the peninsula. Wang expressed China's commitment to involving itself in such a process.
