Swiss tennis star Roger Federer played his last match, a doubles, alongside his long-time on-court rival in London on Friday. Federer announced his retirement on social media on September 15 due to a knee injury. Federer paired with Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal as part of Team Europe in the Laver Cup. They ended up losing the match but, nevertheless, Federer received a big applause from the spectators and hugs from his teammates. The 41-year-old former world champion, who won 20 Grand Slam titles during his 24-year career, also won a gold medal in the men's doubles in the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and a silver medal in the men's singles in the 2012 London Games. He returned to the court in March of last year after undergoing knee surgery in 2020. However, later in the year he withdrew from the French Open in the fourth round and lost in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.
