Truss, Modi tweet in Japanese to express condolences over Abe NHK

British Prime Minister Liz Truss has expressed condolences on social media over the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo.

Truss posted a message on her Twitter account on Tuesday, the day of Abe's state funeral.

She wrote in both Japanese and English, "His warm friendship with the United Kingdom over many years leaves a lasting legacy in the close ties of friendship our people enjoy today."

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who built friendly relations with Abe, also expressed condolences on Twitter.

He wrote in Japanese that Abe was a great leader and an extraordinary person who had confidence in the friendship between India and Japan. He said Abe will live in the hearts of millions of people.

India's foreign ministry says Modi met Abe's widow Akie after attending the funeral and expressed condolences.
