Japan's Defense Ministry says North Korea has fired what appears to be a ballistic missile. The Japanese government says it may have fallen outside Japan's exclusive economic zone. South Korea's military announced the North fired a ballistic missile toward the Sea of Japan on Sunday. A senior South Korean official had previously said Pyongyang might launch an intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, as early as this month. North Korea sent a military spy satellite into orbit in November. It is the 20th time this year that Pyongyang has launched what could be a ballistic missile or an object using ballistic missile technology.
