Japan's ruling and opposition camps have agreed to hold an extraordinary session of the Diet for 69 days from October 3 through December 10. The extraordinary session will be the first opportunity for a full debate after Prime Minister Kishida Fumio reshuffled his Cabinet last month. The ruling and opposition parties agreed to hold an opening ceremony on the day the session convenes. The ruling coalition proposed that Kishida deliver a policy speech on the opening day. But the opposition camp stressed that Lower House Speaker Hosoda Hiroyuki should first clarify whether he has ties with the former Unification Church. Hosoda is expected to offer an explanation as early as Thursday. The Lower House steering committee chair, Yamaguchi Shunichi, said that Hosoda will probably investigate as much as he can and take some sort of action.
