G20 agriculture ministers discuss food crisis concerns NHK

Agriculture ministers from the Group of 20 nations have met on the Indonesian island of Bali to discuss their shared challenges and concerns.

Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine was a recurrent theme in many of the meetings. The gathering took place amid growing anxiety over a global food crisis.

Chair country Indonesia insisted the war must end immediately. Its minister said food security is a human-rights issue that concerns all of humanity.

However, the members could not agree on a joint communique summarizing their discussions.
Russia is one of the members.
But they did agree to work against any food export restrictions, and promote digitalization and innovation to improve food security.

Kyiv resumed its grain exports in August. They had been stalled following Russia's invasion and blockade of Black Sea ports. But the World Food Progamme remains nervous about the future.

Ukraine's agricultural sector has been hit hard because of crop damage caused by fighting and lower grain yields.

There were differing views among the G20 members over how to deal with Moscow on matters such as sanctions.
