Australia says it will end its five-day isolation requirement for coronavirus-infected people on October 14. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Friday that he wanted to "get more national consistency with outcomes" and provide people with "more certainty and less confusion going forward." Workers in healthcare and other high-risk settings will still be required to self-isolate. Australia continues to record about 5,000 COVID-19 cases each day. Mandatory isolation is one of the last remaining coronavirus restrictions in the country. Mask-wearing remains compulsory in hospitals and other settings. Albanese also said that financial support for high-risk workplaces will continue. The Australian government apparently hopes to re-energize the economy by restoring pre-pandemic lifestyles.
