The United States and Russia have accused each other of sabotaging two undersea gas pipelines linking Russia and Germany, causing leaks. The gas leaks from the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines under the Baltic Sea were confirmed in late September. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a speech on Friday said, "The Anglo-Saxons believe sanctions are no longer enough and now they have turned to sabotage." US President Joe Biden spoke to reporters at the White House the same day and called the gas leakage a "deliberate act of sabotage." He accused the Russians of pumping out disinformation and lies and said, "Just don't listen to what Putin is saying." The Nord Stream pipeline system is an important energy infrastructure for Germany and other European nations. Biden expressed his intention to send divers to find out what caused the leakage. Biden has repeatedly stressed his determination to defend every inch of NATO territory. NATO maintains that the military alliance will take firm action against any intentional attack on the key infrastructure of its member nations.
