South Korean president criticizes the North's missile launch NHK

The president told reporters that the missile traveled over Japan, flying about 4,000 kilometers.

He called a National Security Council meeting to discuss how to deal with the launch.

The South Korean military's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the intermediate-range ballistic missile was fired from Mupyong-ri in the northern province of Jagang at about 7:23 a.m. on Tuesday.

Military officials are gathering and analyzing intelligence jointly with their US counterparts.

North Korea also fired a missile from around Mupyong-ri in January. Pyongyang announced at the time that it had test-fired the Hwasong-12 type IRBM on a lofted trajectory.
