The defense ministers of the United States and South Korea have agreed to strengthen deterrence against North Korea, after its most recent ballistic missile launch.
                
The South Korean military&#039;s Joint Chiefs of Staff says the intermediate ballistic missile was fired from Mupyong-ri in the northern province of Jagang on Tuesday, and travelled about 4,500 kilometers.
                
South Korean Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup and the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin discussed the matter over the phone later in the day.
                
They said the US and South Korean forces jointly conducted precision bombing training on Tuesday, involving four US fighter jets and four from South Korea.
                
They stressed that capabilities to precisely strike the origin of the North&#039;s provocations were confirmed.
                
They agreed to strengthen the joint defense posture to respond to any provocation.
                
On Tuesday, South Korea&#039;s Defense Ministry said that North Korea is preparing to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, and a submarine-launched ballistic missile, or SLBM, and is ready to conduct its 7th nuclear test.
                
The ministry warned of the possible escalation of provocations.
                
South Korean media reported that South Korea and the US may be considering the deployment of US strategic weapons, and missile launch exercises.
