Floods and landslides in the central provinces of Vietnam triggered by powerful storm Noru have left at least 8 people dead. Local weather authorities said Noru, which struck last week, was one of the most powerful typhoons to hit the country in 20 years. Rainfall intermittently continued even after the storm passed, leaving more than 17,000 buildings flooded, mainly in central Vietnam. State media footage showed the military evacuating residents and delivering relief supplies by boat. Central Vietnam's rainy season lasts from September to around December. Authorities said another tropical depression could bring serious conditions again this month, and they are calling on people to remain alert. Heavy rainfall in Thailand also caused severe flooding in several regions. The government said nearly one-third of the country's provinces were affected by the floods, which left 3 people dead over the past week. Some areas of Bangkok also suffered extensive flooding. Footage from those areas showed buildings and vehicles almost submerged. Authorities in the capital warned water levels could rise further over the coming days.
