A SpaceX Crew Dragon craft with Japanese astronaut Wakata Koichi and three others aboard has been launched toward the International Space Station. The Falcon 9 rocket carrying the spacecraft lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in the US state of Florida shortly after noon local time on Wednesday. The spacecraft successfully separated from the rocket on a planned orbit about 12 minutes after liftoff. The Crew-5 mission, whose other members are two Americans and a Russian cosmonaut, will arrive at the ISS after a roughly 29-hour trip. The 59-year-old Wakata is making his fifth space mission -- the most among Japanese astronauts. He will stay on the ISS for about six months. His tasks include doing experiments to prepare for exploration of the moon and Mars.
