Major Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways has proposed to its labor union an increase in bonuses to be paid in the upcoming winter to pre-coronavirus pandemic levels.
In the proposal to the union on Wednesday, ANA management says they are ready to pay bonuses equivalent to two months' salary this winter.
The carrier suspended the payment of bonuses in the winter of 2020 as its business performance worsened due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
ANA, however, resumed the payment of the bonuses for summer this year, providing the equivalent of one month's salary.
The company says Wednesday's proposal was made given an increasing trend in the number of flight passengers.
ANA says it also plans to resume the payment of the allowance at the end of the current fiscal year, in addition to summer and winter bonuses.
But employees' annual incomes are expected to be 10 to 20 percent below the pre-pandemic levels.
Many companies in the airline and travel industries, which were hit hard by the pandemic, decreased or suspended their bonus payment and other allowances due to a worsening performance.
More foreign tourists are now expected to visit Japan, as the government is easing its coronavirus border control.
The focus will be the extent wages and allowances will be raised in these industries.
