Intelligence officials in Japan are increasing their surveillance activities ahead of a major event in North Korea. The ruling Workers' Party marks its 77th anniversary on Monday. Concerns are rising that Pyongyang could be planning another provocation after a flurry of missile launches in recent days. Officials in Japan are working with their counterparts in South Korea and the United States to keep close watch on activities in the North. Pyongyang has previously resorted to provocations around the time of the party's anniversary. They include a ballistic missile launch in 2016, and North Korea's first nuclear test in 2006. What's more, the regime recently expressed anger when the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier was redeployed to the Sea of Japan.
