A Japanese government official says authorities may soon review the protocols for wearing facemasks during the coronavirus pandemic. Cases are declining nationwide, and border officials will lift a cap on the number of overseas arrivals starting Tuesday. Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara Seiji says the government plans to update its anti-infection measures, including the use of facemasks. Kihara added that the measures will apply to tourists. Back in May, the government said people do not need to wear masks outdoors, especially when the temperature is very hot. But many Japanese are still reluctant to remove their masks. Economic Revitalization Minister Yamagiwa Daishiro is calling for broader clarification. He says, "Nothing can be dictated without public consensus. A discussion must be held about living with the virus and the possibility of a new wave."
