A series of explosions rocked the center of Ukraine's capital Kyiv on Monday morning. Authorities say at least 9 people died. Russian President Vladimir Putin said he has retaliated for Saturday's explosion on a key bridge linking Russia and Crimea. Kyiv's mayor says the explosions occurred in two districts of the capital, and that one of them is only about a kilometer from the presidential office. A senior official of Ukraine's Internal Affairs Ministry said on social media that the blasts killed 9 people and injured 36. Russia's state-run television quoted Ukrainian media as saying explosions were reported in Kyiv, Lviv in the west, and Kharkiv in the east, and that energy facilities in those and other cities have been hit. The governor of Lviv said energy infrastructure in his region has been hit by air attacks. In a video message, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia for targeting civilians in missile attacks. He said, "We are dealing with terrorists. They have two targets. One of them is energy infrastructure across Ukraine. They want to destroy our energy system to create panic and chaos. Their second target is people. They have deliberately chosen the timing and the targets of their attacks to cause as much damage as possible." Putin said his country carried out large-scale attacks on infrastructure facilities in Ukraine in retaliation for the bridge explosion. He also said Russia will respond harshly if threats from Ukraine continue in his country. A German government official said G7 leaders will discuss Russia's missile attacks on Kyiv in an online meeting on Tuesday. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is also to attend.
