Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, who is also president of the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party, says he has instructed his party to hold policy talks with the opposition Democratic Party for the People.
Ishiba made the remark at a meeting of LDP executives on Tuesday.
He said he hopes to be named prime minister at the special Diet session to open next Monday. He said that taking into account the Lower House election results, he will tackle political reform, economic measures and efforts to revitalize Japan one by one.
He added that he wants the LDP to hold policy talks with opposition parties, while maintaining its ruling coalition with Komeito.
He said he will meet Democratic Party for the People leader Tamaki Yuichiro if conditions are right.
Ishiba also instructed the party task force on political reform to swiftly draft a plan.
The LDP is to convene a meeting of lawmakers from both chambers of the Diet on Thursday to sum up last month's Lower House election. Ishiba said he will listen to various opinions about managing the party.
Meanwhile, the LDP announced the schedule of Ishiba's meetings with other main party leaders. He will meet the chief of Komeito on Saturday, the head of the Japan Innovation Party on Sunday, and the leaders of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and the Democratic Party for the People separately on Monday.
