Israel&#039;s government is expected to demand the expulsion of Hamas&#039;s leadership from the Gaza Strip for the second phase of a ceasefire agreement.
                
Israeli media outlets reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was set to convene a cabinet meeting on Tuesday to gain approval for a set of Israeli demands for the next stage of the deal.
                
Those demands reportedly include the removal of Hamas leaders from Gaza and the disarmament of their militants.
                
Since a six-week ceasefire took effect on January 19, Hamas has released a total of 16 Israeli hostages, and Israel has set free more than 760 Palestinians. In the second stage, negotiators will aim to bring a permanent end to the fighting and realize the release of all remaining hostages.
                
It&#039;s unclear whether Hamas is ready to accept the demands of Israel. The negotiations, which also involve mediators such as Qatar, Egypt and the United States, are expected to become more difficult.
