Daytime robbery at watch shop in Kawasaki, near Tokyo NHK

Two people have barged into a luxury watch shop and smashed showcases in Kawasaki City, south of Tokyo. They fled the scene but one of them was later caught nearby.

Police say the incident took place at around 1 p.m. on Sunday in a busy area near Kawasaki Station.

The robbers reportedly entered the shop, threatened staff, and fled after shattering showcases with crowbars.

A man believed to be one of the pair was caught by the shop manager and other people on a street about 100 meters away.

Police arrested him on suspicion of robbery causing injury.

The suspect is 26-year-old Yagi Takahiro from Osaka. Police have not disclosed whether he has admitted to the robbery.

Investigators say an employee at the shop who caught the suspect sustained minor injuries.

Police have launched an investigation into whether anything was taken from the store, and are searching for the other suspect who fled the scene.
