Tsunami advisory issued for Japan's Pacific coast regions NHK

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck near the Philippines' Mindanao Island on Saturday.

A tsunami advisory is in effect along Japan's Pacific coastal areas from Okinawa's Miyakojima-Yaeyama region to Chiba prefecture.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to stay away from coastal areas as a 1-meter tsunami is expected.

Tsunami are estimated to reach the following areas: The Miyako and Yaeyama island region at 1:30 a.m. local time on Sunday.

Miyazaki Prefecture and Tokyo's Ogasawara Islands at 2:30 a.m.

Eastern Kagoshima Prefecture, Kochi Prefecture, Tokushima Prefecture, Wakayama Prefecture, southern Mie Prefecture and the Izu Islands at 3:00 a.m.

Aichi Prefecture's Pacific coast, Shizuoka Prefecture and Chiba Prefecture's Uchibo region at 3:30 a.m.

Tsunami can arrive repeatedly, and the height of the waves could rise suddenly.

People in the areas under the advisory should stay away from the coast, regardless of the estimated time of arrival.
