Kobe Port Tower to reopen after lengthy revamp NHK

Kobe Port Tower, a landmark tourist attraction in Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan, will reopen this week following a large-scale renovation.

Media were invited to the site in the port city of Kobe for a preview on Tuesday, ahead of the public opening on Friday.

The 108-meter sightseeing landmark originally opened in 1963. It has been getting a revamp, including a quake resistance upgrade, and will open for business for the first time in about 2 years and 7 months.

A new rooftop observation deck with a panoramic view of Kobe Port and the commercial districts has been added.

Below the rooftop deck, drinks and snacks are offered at the revolving cafe and bar, which rotates 360 degrees in 30 minutes.

Visitors can enjoy shopping on the lower floors, where admission is free.
