Starlink satellite Internet kits now sold in Costco with free subscription months for club members Daniel Zlatev Starlink satellite Internet kits now sold in Costco with free subscription months for club members Costco Japan has been selling Starlink terminals for a while (image: hiro_mahalo/X) After stocking Costco stores in Japan with Starlink terminals, SpaceX is expanding its partnership with the wholesaler on this side of the pond, too. The same Costco Japan promotion of free Starlink satellite Internet service months now applies in the US, too. Daniel Zlatev, Published 12/11/2023 Business After launching enough satellites to ensure robust Starlink speeds and coverage, SpaceX is now trying to popularize its satellite Internet service among the general public and make it more mainstream. The satellite Internet kits first appeared in places like Home Depot or Best Buy, and now it's Costco's turn to directly offer Starlink to its club members. Starlink price at Costco For now, however, Costco only carries the $2,499 Starlink Flat High Performance Kit that targets connectivity while in motion, such as RV installations, but the $599 Standard kit shouldn't be far behind. To woo more customers to its new Starlink satellite Internet entry, Costco offers free subscription for two months after activating the Starlink service. This is $200 of free Starlink Internet if one goes for the Roam mobile regional subscription that SpaceX says is "best for RVers, campers, and travelers throughout a continent," meaning that it would be georestricted. The savings climb up to $460 if the High Performance Kit is used with the Mobile Global tier that offers unlimited data on land everywhere Starlink has coverage. The Flat High Performance Kit is "currently the only designated dish for in-motion use," tips SpaceX and thanks to a "wide field of view and enhanced GPS capabilities, it can connect to more satellites, allowing for consistent connectivity while on the go, " all the while being "more resilient to extreme environments." While that explains the much higher price, most Costco members would likely wait for the Starlink Standard Kit that costs just $599 to appear in their local warehouse. After all, Starlink at Costco is not a precedent, since Costco Japan has been selling the Standard Kit in its stores for a good while now, hinting that it shouldn't be long before the wholesaler starts stocking up on cheaper Starlink dishes and equipment for home use on this side of the pond, too.
