Two arrested in Germany over suspected attempt to block support for Ukraine NHK

German prosecutors say they have arrested two German-Russian nationals for allegedly plotting to carry out sabotage attacks on military and other facilities in Germany in an apparent bid to hinder military support for Ukraine.

The prosecutors said on Thursday that the two were arrested on suspicion of engaging in spying activities among other actions. They added that the duo planned to carry out explosive attacks that were intended to undermine Germany's military support for Ukraine.

Germany's Der Spiegel magazine has reported that the suspects' potential targets included US military facilities, where Ukrainian soldiers are trained to operate tanks.

The prosecutors say one of the men has been in contact with a person connected to a Russian secret service agency since October of 2023.

Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser expressed a sense of alarm about the matter. She said, "It is a particularly serious case of suspected agent activity for Putin's criminal regime."

On Thursday, Russia's presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that he did not have any information about the issue.
