Multiple US media outlets are reporting that more people are expected to take advantage of early voting for the November 8 midterm elections in most states compared to four years ago. In the midterm elections, people vote to choose senators, representatives and state governors. Early voting is already underway in most states. The University of Florida, which tracks nationwide voting statistics, says more than 36 million people had cast mail-in ballots or gone to the polls as of Friday. In the southern state of Georgia, where a close race is taking place, more than 1.63 million people had voted by Monday. That is up about 36.6 percent from the same period four years ago. The state says it is a record high for a midterm election. Lines formed at polling stations on Friday, the final day for early voting in Georgia. It remains to be seen whether the rise in the number of early voters is a sign that overall turnout will be higher in this year's midterm elections.
