Pentagon spokesperson: No classified information in Hegseth's Signal chat NHK

A US Department of Defense spokesperson says "there was no classified information in any Signal chat" of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.



Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell released a statement on Sunday after the New York Times reported that Hegseth shared information related to US military operations in the Middle East in the group chat that included his family members.



Parnell said media outlets are repeating their "garbage" by "enthusiastically taking the grievances of disgruntled former employees as the sole sources for their article."



He was apparently referring to senior department officials who have been dismissed or have resigned just recently.



The spokesperson said the media outlets "relied only on the words of people who were fired this week and appear to have a motive to sabotage the Secretary and the President's agenda."
