Nadeshiko Japan humbles Spain 4-0 NHK

The Japanese women's soccer team has hit a patch of impressive form, and the timing couldn't be better. On Monday, the Nadeshiko topped Group C at the World Cup by dismantling Spain 4-0.

Japan, ranked 11th in the world, was ruthless in the counterattack against a formidable European opponent ranked 6th. Both teams were aiming to top the group.

Miyazawa Hinata latched onto a through ball to open the scoring in the 12th minute.

Spain dominated possession, but Nadeshiko expertly soaked up the pressure by quickly closing down any space.

Japan hit Spain on the break again in the 29th. This time it was Ueki Riko who found the net.
And in the 40th minute, Ueki became the provider. The forward unleashed a tidy angled pass to Miyazawa, who made no mistake.

Tanaka Mina added a devastating fourth goal in the 82nd minute. Spain had been humbled. And Japan was ecstatic.

Miyazawa said the team is so happy to advance past the group stage without losing. She added that they will prepare well for the next match.

Japan faces Norway in the last 16 on Saturday.
