French authorities halted all bus and tram services nationwide on Friday night in an attempt to contain riots sparked by the fatal police shooting of a teenager.
                
The 17-year-old was shot in the Paris suburb of Nanterre on Tuesday after not complying with an order to stop.
                
Some of the protests have turned violent.
                
Officials at the interior ministry said riots continued overnight through Friday, adding that nearly 900 people have been detained and more than 200 police officers injured.
                
Nearly 500 buildings have been damaged, including about 200 related to the police or government.
                
In Nanterre, protestors shattered shop windows and set fire to cars and buildings.
                
Mourners laid flowers near the site of the shooting.
                
French President Emmanuel Macron left a European Union summit in Brussels early to attend a cabinet crisis meeting.
                
The teenager is believed to be from Algeria. The country&#039;s foreign ministry issued a statement saying it learned of the death with &quot;shock and dismay.&quot;
                
The statement expressed confidence in the French government to ensure the security of Algerians in France.
                
It also said the Algerian government will continue to follow developments and seek to protect its citizens.
