Japan's health ministry says 7,967 new coronavirus cases were reported in Tokyo on Saturday. The tally is up 3,843 from the same day last week and is nearly double the figure a week ago. The number of severely ill COVID-19 patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines in the capital was 18 on Saturday, down one from the previous day. There were two deaths in the metropolis linked to the virus.
