Inoue Yachiyo, a living national treasure and the leader of the Inoue school of Kyoto's traditional dance, encouraged her students and gifted them folding fans in response. 3. A new maiko named Maho, who made her debut in June, expressed her determination to work hard to set a good example for next year's maiko. The room was decorated with about 50 sets of New Year rice cake decorations.
