Starbucks to hike coffee prices at some stores in Japan NHK

Starbucks Coffee Japan is introducing location-based pricing at select stores to manage rising material and labor costs.

The company says it is raising prices for certain drinks, including coffees and lattes, at about 30 percent of stores starting on February 15.

Prices will go up about 6 percent on average at locations at highway rest stops and airports. Stores in urban areas, including Tokyo's 23 wards and Osaka City, will see 4 percent hikes.

The company has over 1,900 outlets nationwide.

Starbucks has raised prices in Japan every year since 2022.

The firm says this month's hike is part of a regular pricing review, and that it studied store locations and neighborhood characteristics before reaching a decision.

McDonald's and dining chain operator Skylark Holdings have also introduced similar location-based pricing systems in Japan.
