Illumination event brightens winter on Japan's Enoshima Island NHK

Enoshima Island, a popular tourist spot southwest of Tokyo, has been lit up with thousands of glowing bulbs for an annual year-end holiday event.

A lighthouse is being illuminated for the spectacle which began on Saturday.

Visitors enjoyed walking through a tunnel of light and taking photos of the scenery.

One boy said, "The sparkling lights are nice."

His mother said she is glad he was enjoying the display.

Futami Masayuki, chairman of Shonan Fujisawa Revitalization Consortium, said: "We have even more lights this year. I hope many people will visit to enjoy our illuminations."

The lights will be lit through the end of February.
