N.Korean leader Kim reiterates intention to accelerate nuclear development NHK

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reiterated his intention to accelerate the country's nuclear development program. He also denounced military cooperation involving the United States, Japan and South Korea.

State-run Korean Central Television reported on Sunday that Kim delivered a speech to senior military officials at the country's Ministry of National Defense on Saturday. The day marked the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People's Army.

Kim reportedly criticized bilateral and multi-national military exercises led by the United States and its military cooperation with Japan and South Korea saying such moves are inviting military imbalance on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.

Kim also referred to a series of new plans to bolster deterrence at an accelerated pace, and suggested he plans to further strengthen its nuclear forces.

The remark comes after US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru confirmed on Friday that they would work together toward Pyongyang's complete denuclearization.
