The Tokyo High Court has dismissed the compensation claim by a worker at Tokyo Disneyland that she was harassed at her workplace. The woman in her 40s works as a costumed performer for the amusement park. She filed the suit against Oriental Land, the operating firm of Tokyo Disneyland, saying she was repeatedly subjected to verbal abuse and other types of bullying by her boss and colleagues. She demanded the company pay 3.3 million yen, or about 22,800 dollars, in compensation. The lower court dismissed her harassment claim, but ruled that the operator neglected to improve its working environment to prevent her from being isolated at work. The lower court ordered the operator to pay about 6,100 dollars. On Wednesday, the high court's presiding judge decided that the remarks she claims as abuse and her other workplace experience did not amount to harassment nor bullying. The judge ruled that there was no sign that the plaintiff had sought advice regarding her possible isolation. The judge also said there were even some colleagues who understood her situation. The judge said doubts remain over whether she was isolated at her workplace, and overturned the compensation order by the lower court.
