Leaders of the Group of 20 major economies are gathering for discussions on global issues, such as poverty and climate change.
                
The two-day G20 summit is set to open in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Monday.
                
Japan&#039;s Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are among the attendees.
                
The G20 leaders are expected in the first day to discuss how to proceed with measures to address hunger and poverty. They are also scheduled to consider sustainable development including climate change over two days of discussions.
                
On Sunday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres commented on the state of negotiations at COP 29, a UN conference on climate change that is underway in Azerbaijan.
                
He stressed that a successful outcome will require leadership and compromise from the G20.
                
The summit comes two months before the inauguration of Donald Trump as US President. He is considered to be reluctant to take measures against climate change and prefers bilateral negotiations.
                
All eyes are on what message the G20 countries send to help resolve these global challenges.
