Southeast Asian leaders have agreed to set a specific timeline for Myanmar's military rulers to implement a five-point peace plan. The summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations discussed Myanmar on Friday. Cambodia is hosting the forum's first in-person meeting in three years. Myanmar's junta has failed to honor an agreement with ASEAN on the Five-Point Consensus, which includes a call for a cessation of hostilities. The military continues to battle pro-democracy forces and ethnic minority militias following last year's coup. ASEAN leaders agreed that the situation in Myanmar remains critical and fragile, with growing violence a major concern. They decided to develop a plan "that outlines concrete, practical and measurable indicators" with a specific timeline to implement the Five-Point Consensus. The leaders also agreed to further review Myanmar's representation at all levels of ASEAN gatherings if the situation so requires. Members of the junta are already barred from ASEAN's summit and foreign ministers' meetings. Myanmar refused to send a non-political representative to the latest ASEAN summit. It remains unclear whether the junta will agree to a timeline for the peace plan.
