Dodgers beat Cubs in MLB regular season opener in Tokyo NHK

The defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-1 in Major League Baseball's regular season opener in Tokyo on Tuesday.



The two-day Tokyo Series marks the first return of official MLB games to Japan in six years.



It was the first time ever a pair of Japanese pitchers started the MLB season opener. Yamamoto Yoshinobu took the mound for the Dodgers and Imanaga Shota for the Cubs.



Yamamoto surrendered an RBI in the second inning on a double. It was the only run he gave up in his five innings of work, along with three hits, earning him the win.



Imanaga threw four scoreless innings, allowing no hits but walking four.



The Dodgers finally broke through in the fifth against the Cub's reliever. Japanese two-way superstar Ohtani Shohei, playing as the designated hitter, got his first hit of the season. Three Dodgers crossed the plate in the inning to take the lead.



Ohtani also doubled in the ninth inning. He ended the day with two hits in five at-bats, contributing to the Dodgers' victory.
