Beijing approves resumption of flights between China, N.Korea NHK

Chinese authorities have approved the resumption of regular flights between China and North Korea.

The flights between Beijing and Pyongyang were suspended after North Korea tightened its border controls as part of measures against the coronavirus in January 2020.

During a news briefing on Monday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that Beijing approved a plan by North Korea's state-run carrier Air Koryo to restart flights.

If resumed, they would be the first such flights between the countries in about three and a half years. But it is not known when exactly the service will restart.

North Korea last month invited delegates from China and Russia to a military parade on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. This month, the country sent a team to the Taekwondo world championships in Kazakhstan.

Russia's state media reported that flights between Pyongyang and Russia's far eastern city of Vladivostok are scheduled to resume on Friday.
Summary
Regular flights between China and North Korea have been approved for resumption after a three-and-a-half-year suspension due to border controls related to the coronavirus. This decision was announced by the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, during a news briefing on Monday.
