Vietnam and Russia on Tuesday agreed to further deepen cooperation in the field of nuclear power.
                
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin in Hanoi to sign an agreement on nuclear energy and other cooperation.
                
In the meeting, Chinh expressed gratitude, saying that he is always grateful for the support Russian people have given to develop Vietnam.
                
In response, Mishustin stressed that Russia places importance on relations with the country.
                
The Vietnamese government froze a plan to build a nuclear power plant in 2016 due to cost and safety concerns. But domestic demand for power has increased, so it resumed the plan in November last year.
                
The Southeast Asian country has had strong ties with Russia since the time of the Soviet Union. It has strengthened this relationship even after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
                
Russia has been building nuclear power plants in emerging countries, taking advantage of its technological prowess in the field.
